For 2025, sera has once again prepared a great calendar with the help of its sera social media community.

Following the great success of last year, resulting in a total of €25,000 donated to various wildlife conservation projects, this calendar is also dedicated to species protection and is available in pet shops for a small fee.

For one euro, aquarium, terrarium and pond enthusiasts in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic, the USA and Portugal can purchase the calendar with the impressive photos of the sera community. All proceeds are donated 100% to wildlife conservation projects worldwide. sera bears the manufacturing, production and distribution costs and even offsets the VAT, so that every single cent goes exactly to the places where it is needed.

Which projects are supported?

The following three wildlife conservation projects will each receive 20% of the proceeds:

1. Coordinated breeding programs for the conservation of amphibians, fish and reptiles – Citizen Conservation

Thousands of species are on the brink of extinction. It will no longer be possible to protect all these species in their natural habitat. For many animals, captive breeding is the only chance to survive the next decades. Citizen Conservation is helping to save as many species as possible from extinction by means of captive breeding. Using the slogan “Together against species extinction”, zoos, as well as institutional and private animal keepers are brought together to become conservationists.

2. Habitat protection and conservation in the Rio Negro region in Brazil – Project Piaba

The Rio Negro is the largest blackwater river in the world and is the habitat of more than 800 species of fish. Collecting and exporting tropical fish for the aquarium trade worldwide is a significant economic sector and an important source of income for the rural population. Project Piaba is committed to ensuring that fishing has a viable future and that the fishing communities can continue to protect the rainforest as a sensitive habitat.

3. Research and breeding of unionids – Oceanogràfic and Fundación Oceanogràfic Valencia

The Oceanogràfic Valencia, together with the Fundación Oceanogràfic, is committed to protecting marine and freshwater animals and their habitats. To ensure their well-being, they focus on conservation programs (in situ and ex situ), research and the communication of scientific findings as well as raising awareness in society.

For instance, research and breeding of endangered unionids (Unionidae, Bivalvia) are being performed. The aim is to reintroduce and strengthen the populations in their natural habitats in the Valencia region.

What happens to the remaining 40% of the donations?

The remaining 40% of the proceeds will be donated to various regional projects spread throughout Europe.

In Portugal, for instance, the purchase of the calendar supports the Aquamuseu do Rio Minho for the protection and conservation of Squalius carolitertii, a fish species that only occurs in a limited area.

Another part of the proceeds will go to the Aquarium du Palais de la Porte-Dorée in France, which supports the Fish Net Madagascar project for the preservation of the unique fish fauna of the Amboaboa River in Madagascar.

In Italy, sera supports the Lifeel Project, which is committed to preserving and increasing the wild population of European eels in the Po river basin.

In the Netherlands, we cooperate with the Koninklijke Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem, which is working together with the Future For Nature (FFN) Foundation for the protection and conservation of the leatherback sea turtle population in Panama.
